The light-alloy cylinder head for an air cooled valved piston engine has valve seat rings in a heat-resistant plate secured to the head on the side towards the cylinder. These extend over the bottom face of the head. Cooling passages (10) are formed in the ribbed portions of the plate (8) between the valve seat rings (5) and extend for the entire width of this zone (9), being run as near as possible to the bottom surface of the cylinder head without adversely affecting mechanical strength and heat conductivity. They are connected by passages to a coolant circuit.
