The invention relates to a base material for electrical and electronic components, contacts and connecting elements, composed of an aluminium alloy. The object of the invention is to find a base material for electrical and electronic components, contacts and connecting elements which provides electrically and mechanically rugged joints which are free of noble metal. It was found that aluminium alloys composed of AlZnMg, AlCuSi, AlMg, and among these especially the alloy AlCu4Si1, are capable of achieving this object. Said base material is used uncoated or coated over the entire surface or selectively, or over the entire surface and selectively, with one or more metals.
