The invention relates to a device for the controlled cooling of rolled bars on cooling beds in which the steel bars produced on medium- and light-section mills are braked by the approach part of the cooling bed, are transferred to the transversely conveying rake system and cooled to processing temperature during transverse transport. The aim and object of the invention is to increase the throughput of a cooling bed by an additional cooling, water which comes only into indirect contact with the rolled stock being used as the cooling medium. At the same time, the energy converted by the cooling process is to be used in an economical manner for other purposes.
