The metal is introduced into an electroplating bath in powdered form and held in suspension therein, with the result that it is incorporated in the layer produced during the electrodeposition of the metal ions from the bath on the metal substrate, and this results in the formation of the porous, firmly adhering surface on the metal substrate.
