In a combined contact device and central winding device for webs of material, especially for films, which has a contact roller for driving a roll, a transfer device for transferring the roll into a central winding drive and a cutting means for cutting the incoming web of material when the rolls are changed, the new winding shaft in each case can be driven by means of a wheel and disc drive (friction wheel drive) and can be lowered onto the start of the incoming web of material and the contact roller once the incoming web of material has been cut. A drive wheel which is designed to engage with the central winding drive when the device is at a standstill is brakeably mounted on the winding shaft by means of a free-running hub. The cutting means has a carriage which can travel transversely to the running direction of the web of material, is mounted so as to be pivotable to a limited extent and whose cutting blade runs off on a hard cutting roller. The contact roller acts as a cutting roller.
