A method for the rapid and economical replacement of old underground cables by new thinner cables, especially glass-fibre cables, while avoiding major earthworks. The cable cores are drawn out of the old underground cables to be replaced, and the cable sleeves remaining in the ground are used as cable-insertion tubes for the new, thinner cables.
