Carboxylic acids, esters and anhydrides are obtained by contacting a saturated aliphatic alcohol with carbon monoxide or a carbon monoxide/hydrogen mixture at elevated temperature and superatmospheric pressure in the presence of a catalyst comprising a compound of manganese, which is soluble in the reaction mixture, and a promoter containing iodine. |
