Chlorocitric acid I was prepd. as the (±)-threo, (+)-threo, (-)-threo, (±)-erythro, (+)-erythro, and (-)-erythro isomers. Thus, 105g (-)-threo-epoxyaconitic acid monohydrate was dissolved in 150mL contg. 43mL conc. HCL, and mixed. 50g NaCl was added to this mixture and heated at 70≰C for 12 hrs. This soln. was evaporated, dried, and treated with 400mL ethylacetate. Then it was filtered, decolorized, concd. and dried. Resulting material was dissolved in 250mL ethylacetate, and this soln. was treated with CCl4. After mixing for several hrs and cooling, 23g (+)-threo-chlorocitric acid was obtained, which had [α25u+ 6.9≰and m.p. 140±2≰C.
