<p>"CHIMNEY CLOSURE APPARATUS" A supporting frame is engaged within the upper end of is the chimney and/sealed around the base thereof adjacent the flue liner and supported by overlapping pegs extending from the frame and engaging the upper edges of the flue liner or chimney. In one embodiment a damper plate is hinged to one side of the lower end of the frame and hangs vertically against the side of the flue liner when open but is pulled upwardly into engagement with the under side of the frame when closed. In another embodiment, the damper plate is hinged centrally of the frame base and hangs vertically, when open, with the upper half extending above the frame base and the other, weighted half, extending below the frame base. Vertically staggered halves of damper plate engaging strips are provided one on each half of the frame with the upper half of the damper plate, when closed, engaging the upper surface of one of the strips and the lower half of the damper plate engaging the under side of the other of the strips. In both embodiments, the damper plate is actuated by cable but will move to the open position if the cable breaks or becomes disconnected from the damper plate.</p> |
