What are disclosed are a method for making halogen-free organomagnesium alkoxides of the formula R1aR2bMg(OR3)c(OR4)c, wherein R1 and R2 are phenyl or alkyl, R3 and R4 are alkyl, and wherein (a+b)=(c+d)=1, by reacting (R1aR2b)2 Mg with Mg [(OR3)c(OR4)d]2, halogen-free organomagnesium alkoxides made by this method, and stable solutions of such organomagnesium alkoxides in an inert hydrocarbon solvent.
