PURPOSE:To eliminate the layout of dummy data of European characters and to increase the printing speed of a printer, by providing a skipping circuit to skip the process of a character layout circuit based on the skip information received from a primary controller. CONSTITUTION:A primary control circuit 4 of a printer controller 2 receives the print position information and a character code from a CPU1 and then gives an access to a character code/character pattern memory address table with said character code used to the address. Thus the circuit 4 reads out a character pattern memory address corresponding to the character code and the skip information added to said memory address. The character pattern memory address is given to a character layout circuit 6, and the skip information is transferred to a skipping circuit 8. The circuit 8 adds the character pattern addresses equivalent to the number of skips and gives an indication to the circuit 6 to perform the layout with a skip equivalent to the addition of character pattern addresses. The circuit 6 gives an access to a memory 5 in accordance with the memory address to read out an all square character pattern and extracts an effective character pattern based on the indication of the circuit 8 to write it to the memory 5. The circuit 4 reads out the character pattern and delivers 7 it. |
