The pneumatically driven counter-recoil mechanism of a reciprocating rolling mill for tubes is controlled by altering the volume of air driving the mechanism in relation to time and/or the travel of the mechanism. This is achieved using a further air chamber or piston pump (1) connected to the compression chamber (4) of the mechanism.
