PURPOSE:To generate a stabilized optical beam as well as to eliminate the possibility of disturbance on emitted optical beam caused by the dew-condensation by a method wherein the preset temperature of the temperature controlling device on an optical beam generator is changed to cope with the operational conditions, i.e., the optical beam generator is in light-emitting operation or it is non-operating condition. CONSTITUTION:When a laser chip is in a non-operating state, the vacant space in a laser package 5 is maintained ay the temperature sufficiently higher than that at which dew-condensation is generated on a glass window 8 using a temperature controlling device 10 such as Peltier element and the like. On the other hand, when the laser chip is in operation, the temperature is lowered using the temperature controlling device 10 so that the laser chip will be maintained at the suitable operating temperature. Also, as the glass window 8 is slowly cooled by the heat absorption of the cnvection of the sealed gas or by the surrounding members even when the temperature controlling device is performing a cooling operation, a considerable period of time is required for the glass window 8 itself to reach the dew-condensating temperature. The quality of laser mounting material and the heat capacity thereof are to be selected conforming to an operating time of the laser chip, and also the temperature when the laser chip is in non-operating state. |
