PURPOSE:To obtain a blank material for a pen point which has a capillary sufficient for supplying and holding of ink and has excellent strength and resistance to abrasion by packing a packing material in the blank material for pen point consisting of an irregularly shaped metallic pipe, drawing the same without mandrel and removing the packing material after cutting. CONSTITUTION:An alloy consisting, for example, of 10% lead and 90% tin is extruded to obtain a blank material 1 for pen point consisting of an irregularly shaped pipe. A packing material, for example, gamma-valeric acid 2 is packed therein at around 160 deg.C and is solidified. A tip 4 is worked to this blank material and the material is drawn through a die 3 for outside reducing, whereby a blank material 5 is produced. Such stage is repeated a number of times to draw the material down to the required pen point diameter. A heat treatment (annealing) stage is usually inserted therein. Since the recrystallization temp. in this embodiment is a room temp. or below, no heat treatment is required. The material 5 is finished by cutting, machining, etc. to a pen point having a drawing end 6 and an ink supply end 7. The pen point is charged into a solvent (water in this case) to elute away the packing material so that the passage for ink is formed over the entire length of the pen point. |
