PURPOSE:To work a lens uniformly with high accuracy and to simplify post- working, by cutting a lens blank material under rotation along the curve of the lens by means of a laser beam which focuses on the diametral line of said material while moving the beam in the direction orthogonal with the optical axis thereof. CONSTITUTION:A beam irradiating body 16 is so controlled that the laser beam emitted therefrom focuses on the optical axis of a lens blank material L. A horizontal guide base 7 and a rotating device 2 are moved to bring the roll 14 at the forward end of a detection rod 13 into contact with one end of a model body M. One end of the material L is located below the body 16. The device 2 is then driven to run a revolving shaft 6 at a low speed and the laser beam is irradiated from the body 16 to the material L so that the material L is fusion cut from one end on the outside circumference thereof. When the device 2 is moved toward the center by operating a hydraulic cylinder 10, the rod 13 moves the base 7 axially along the curve of the body M; therefore, the material L is cut from the outside circumference toward the central part in the diametral direction, whereby the lens having prescribed curvature is formed. |
