The chain store guides and protects the free end of a roller chain in a drive for a garage door. The chain meshes with a motor-drives sprocket and is attached at one end to a crab travelling on a guide rail. It comprises a spiral guide groove(40) with walls(37a, 37b), into which the free end of the chain(24) is passed as it is driven in this direction by the sprocket(31). The store & sprocket can be mounted on one side of a housing plate(42), through which the sprocket shaft passes to a pulley on the other, driven by belt from the motor.
