In an elongated casing there is a horizontally arranged trough (22) which is made of a flexible material and has opposite side walls and end walls (14, 16). The trough has an inlet and an outlet respectively at its opposite ends (32, 31). Within the trough and along it there extends a shaft (52) having a multiplicity of radially projecting arms (60). The shaft is driven by a drive device (104) in such a way that the circumferential speed of the outer ends of paddles (70) fastened to the arms is from 122 to 458 m/min. The paddles are elongated and wedge-shaped and have symmetrical, convergent, flat faces. Said faces form a sharp cutting edge (78) pointing in the direction of rotation, for mixing and pelletising the introduced material which is moved to the outlet end by the paddles. Water-spraying devices (92) for moistening the material are present only in the inlet end region of the trough. Hanging down in the direction of the trough from a plate (84) which partially closes the top side of the casing are chains (82) for breaking up the material. Employing this appliance, very intensive mixing of the components is achieved, as a result of which less binder and activant is required. <IMAGE>
