<p>The unit comprises a centrifugal extractor in the form of an open-bottomed, vertical cylindrical shell equipped with vertical axis rotor to which honey combs can be attached. The extractor is fitted coaxially on top of a honey ripener in the form of an open-topped, vertical cylindrical vessel. A horizontal, perforated screen is fitted in the top of the ripener to strain honey as it drains from the extractor. A tap is fitted in the lower part of the ripener from which pots can be filled with treated honey. The extractor and ripener are pref. made up of modular, hollow, cylindrical shells. The centrifuging rotor may comprise radial bars from which combs can be suspended or a cage into which combs can be fitted. The rotor can be turned manually with a handle mounted above the top cover of the extractor and employing planetary gearing to transmit torque to the rotor shaft. By mounting the extractor on top of the ripener, extd. honey drains directly into the ripener. This avoids a time-consuming and potentially unhygienic transfer operation.</p> |
