SOLID STATE IMAGE PICKUP DEVICE

PURPOSE:To increase the area of a transfer electrode and to make the transfer capacity large, by reading out the electric charge stored in a photosensitive element of MIS structure with each horizontal scan and with the MIS structure for vertical transfer. CONSTITUTION:An MIS structure 2 and a line gate 3 are provided to an array of (nXm) units of photodiodes 1 (n: an integer, n<2m). The signal charges stored in the diodes 1 are read out simultaneously to the structure 2 through the gate 3 and by an amount equivalent to one line selected by a line selecting circuit 4. The signal charge read out to the structure 2 is transferred to a CCD horizontal transfer means 9 through a temporary storing region 7 and a gate circuit part 8 and with scanning pulses phi1, phi2 and phi3 supplied from a scanning pulse generating circuit 5. The signal of the means 9 is transferred with the pulses phiH1 and phiH2 and delivered through a terminal 10. This can increase the area of a transfer electrode as well as the transfer capacity.
