PURPOSE:To improve the recording and reproducing efficiency, by forming a magnetic gap due to a nonmagnetic layer only at tips of cores opposed to each other and bringing the other parts of these cores into contact with each other closely to join them and making the magnetic resistance of the rear gap down to zero to reduce the magnetic resistance of cores themselves. CONSTITUTION:The plane of a core 1 is subjected to mechanochemical polishing to form a gap forming face 7 which is lower than a close contact face 6 by a step having a height (a), and a nonmagnetic layer 8 is formed with the thickness (a) by the sputtering method, the vapor-deposition method, or the like. Cores 1 and 2 are brought closely into contact with each other, and a glass 9 in a glass inserting groove 5 is melted and is packed into a track groove 3. Unnecessary parts on the side of the glass inserting groove 5 of cores 1 and 2 are cut, and their tip faces are worked into a curved face, and a coil is mounted on a winding groove 4. The length of a gap g1 at tips of cores 1 and 2 coincides with the thickness (a) of the nonmagnetic layer 8, and the close contact face 6 of the core 1 is brought closely into contact with the core 2, and therefore, the rear gap becomes zero; and thus, the magnetic resistance is reduced to improve the recording and reproducing efficiency. |
