The invention relates to an exhaust brake for an internal combustion engine, the throttle valve of which is eccentrically mounted and connected by way of a lever system to the control cylinder serving to operate it in the closing direction, on the piston of which cylinder a spring acts in the opening direction of the throttle valve, an adjustable spring acting on the lever system in the closing direction of the throttle valve and a hand pull in the opening direction of the throttle valve in such a way that the throttle valve in the throttle position moves into an open position freeing a throttle gap both automatically at a predetermined limit pressure and arbitrarily in response to the hand pull for pressure relief or for the cold starting and/or warming-up of the internal combustion engine. <IMAGE>
