The invention relates to a transom block for fastening a hollow transom section especially for window frames. The transom block has a base which rests on and can be fastened to the frame spar and from which a locating part projects upwards. The hollow transom section or a hollow reinforcing section is pushed onto this locating part and subsequently fastened. An easy mounting and a use for the assembly of cross joints in windows are made possible in that the base is designed as a relatively wide foot which projects in the longitudinal direction of the frame spar above the pushed-on hollow sections of the transom. On these end regions of the foot which extend beyond the hollow sections, the transom block has fastening regions which are easily accessible for fastening means even after the transom block has been inserted into the frame spar and the hollow section of the transom itself has been pushed on.
