The invention relates to the field of power tools and stationary machine tools wherever rotating, high-speed tools are used, in particular portable grinding machines and portable circular saws. The clamping device is to clamp tools quickly and reliably, such as, for example, a cutting-off wheel, which has to be exchanged frequently. During this tool-clamping operation, which as far as possible is a simple operation for the machine operator, the use of further tools such as open-ended spanners or ring-nut keys is to be dispensed with. The idea behind the invention is to use the rotary energy in the machine tool to firmly and reliably clamp the tool for the duration of its use. The object is achieved in that a small portion of the rotating working energy is converted into centrifugal force and is transmitted by a linkage to a nut which acts in the direction of the clamping force. <IMAGE>
