In a folding chair having two pairs of lockable legs (11, 12), which can be pivoted against one another about a horizontal axis in the manner of scissors, and having a seat (10), supported at the upper ends of the legs (11, 12), according to the invention the connection of each leg (11 or 12) to the seat (10) is constructed as a joint (14 or 15) with an axis parallel to the scissor axis, and the legs (11, 12) are equipped with a height-adjusting device, acting in the region of the scissor axis, for the seat (10). This arrangement allows the height of the seat (10) to be adjusted to any desired position, including complete lowering of the seat (10) into the collapsed state of the folding chair. <IMAGE>
