Method of partially applying coatings containing highly noble metal

The invention relates to a method of partially applying coatings containing highly noble metal to cast objects made of dental alloys by electrodeposition using electrolytes containing highly noble metal. Interlayers which have to be extremely thin are required as adhesion promoters between such cast objects and ceramic layers which are to be applied. For the interlayers hitherto used, a cost-intensive intermediate firing was necessary. Electrodeposition of an interlayer with masking of the areas which were not to be coated did not hitherto yield the desired success. Surprisingly, success is achieved in the inventive manner if the cast object concerned is wired as cathode and the electrolyte is applied by means of a moving, anodically wired pen or brush electrode to the surface of the metallic cast object to be coated. The invention also proposes electrolytes which permit an aesthetically attractive coating and/or provide good adhesion promoters between cast object and ceramic.
