The extension device (2) for the region of the lumbar vertebrae is integrated in the treatment couch (1). The treatment couch has a lying surface consisting of a head part (3), a central part (4), an upper leg rest (5) and a lower leg rest (6). The lower leg rest (6) is mounted on a telescopic column (9) whose height can be adjusted by means of a pump (11). The telescopic column is arranged on a horizontally extending, plate-shaped support (12) which is guided in parallel by a parallelogram linkage (15) and can be pivoted about a horizontal axis (17) by means of a drive (18). In the lowered position of the extension device the lower leg rest (6) is aligned with the remaining, horizontal lying surface parts. The lower legs of the patient can thus be tensioned on the lower leg rest in a horizontal position of the legs, so that painful raising of the legs is unnecessary. <IMAGE>
