A higher-ranking connection control system (VSTS) with at least one management processor (VR) is assigned to the communications network (KOM), the connection control system (VSTS) being connected via an information data network (INF) at least to transit exchanges (TVST) within the communications network (KOM). The management processor(s) (VR1, VR2) always has/have updated data relating to network structure, network utilisation, current allocations of mobile subscriber identification numbers to station numbers etc. Connection set-up and clear-down procedures are carried out by the terminal exchanges (EVST) concerned on the basis of instructions from the connection control system.
