A method and an arrangement for making a multiplicity of bore holes in a surface (10) to be bored, such as a ground surface or rock wall, comprises a rotating emitter (11), emitting electromagnetic radiation and producing a radiation area (R), as well as a rock-drilling machine (20) with a feed cradle (21) on which a slide (22) with a drilling unit is slidably arranged. Furthermore, a receiver (11A) for the emitted radiation is fastened to the slide. When the receiver (11A) passes through the radiation area it activates a signal which is stored in an electronic computer (23), where it activates a drilling completion signal on the basis of other programmed and input values when the drill bit has reached the end surface to be drilled. <IMAGE>
