Method and device for sealing containers wherein a sheet is pressed on a container (B) by means of a heater (25) provided with a heating member (26) and suspended to a cross-bar (7) arranged between two columns (5, 6), in order to keep constant the sealing temperature, the pressure and the pressure time. The heater is fixed to a support and a member is arranged between the heater and the support. An electromagnetic field is generated between the member and the support to bring them close to each other; simultaneously, the heater moves away from the member and progresses towards the container. The device is economical, of simple construction and reduced size. To this effect, the heater is connected to the support by means of a fixing element traversing the cross-bar (7). A member also traversed by the fixing element is attached to the upper side (9) of the cross-bar between the support and the heater. An electromagnetic field acting between the support and the member brings them close to each other.
