A desuperheater (1) comprises a high pressure inlet water chamber (20) closed by a nozzle body (18) having a central, axially extending piston bore (21) terminating in a short cylindrical discharge section (24) of reduced diameter. A piston (26) is slidable in the bore (21) and a series of blind passages (31) surrounding the bore (21) cooperate with axially downwardly inclined and skewed port holes (32) to define ports opening (30, 33) into the piston bore (21) at axially spaced levels. The nozzle body (18) is fitted into and secured to an inlet water body section (16) which blocks off the water openings of the port holes (32). The ports (30, 33) are distributed at the different levels such that an exponential distribution of their areas is effected. |
