A method for decoding frequency-coded signals by means of digital circuits, in which one of n frequencies to be received can be detected and in which the sinusoidal input signals are converted into square wave voltages and the squarewave voltages are supplied to a counting circuit (ZSU, ZSO) for determining the frequency within a predetermined time, is designed according to the invention in such a manner that, with the same manipulation, the decoding of frequency-coded signals of different multi-frequency transmission methods is possible. This is achieved by determining in a first method step whether the received frequency is a frequency within a predetermined frequency range, determining in a second method step by means of a result evaluating store (EAS) whether a frequency within the frequency range is a useful frequency or a noise frequency, and checking in a further method step by means of various application stores (AWS1-AWSx) associated with different transmission methods whether the useful frequency determined represents a useful frequency valid for this transmission method. <IMAGE>
