These tyres which are equipped with a radial carcass have a belt made of two folded layers with a U-shaped cross-section with legs of different lengths. In order, in the case of these belts consisting merely of two layers, to provide three cross-ties lying one next to the other, the longer legs of the belt layers overlap in the centre of the tread whilst the shorter legs of the two layers at the edge of the belt produce, together with the sections of the longer legs lying above them, the two other cross-ties located laterally on the outside. All these cross-ties are arranged with mutual spacing which is greater than three times the diameter of the belt strengthening member whilst otherwise the centrally located cross-tie has a width which is 1 DIVIDED 2 to 1 DIVIDED 3 of the belt width whilst the cross-ties located laterally on the outside have a width which is approximately 1 DIVIDED 4 to 1 DIVIDED 3 of the entire width of the belt.
