A guardshield (10) has on its inside two arm straps (14) and a handle (16), between which extends a flat box screwed to the inside of the shield and closed by means of an upholstered arm rest (60). The upholstered arm rest has two side beads and a middle arm recess. Retained in the two side beads are two gas bottles (18), of which the heads (20), when pressed inwards, discharge gas through an outlet tube (36) and passage orifices in the box bottom and in the shield (10). The gas bottle (18) is activated by means of a grip ring (30) which is added to the handle (16), a lever (24) being pivoted and, via a linkage, pressing a thrust plate (50) against the head (20) and consequently moving the latter into the gas bottle. The outlet tube (36) of the gas-bottle head terminates directly adjacent to the inner face of the shield and is oriented at right angles to this. The box bottom and the shield have mutually coincidental passage orifices (22), in the region of which the axis of the tube (36) comes to rest in the spraying position. <IMAGE>
