Paper processing machine and method for its control

In a paper processing machine, especially a punching or printing machine, with a feed table, across which the sheets to be processed are moved in rapid succession to a feeding position, in which they remain stationary for a short period, the object to be achieved is to permit control of the operation of a paper processing machine in which it is possible to determine, before the operation and without additional printed marks, whether the sheet to be processed is properly aligned, has been processed in the operations upstream and is now in position. To this end, the invention uses a method for controlling operation of a paper processing machine in such a way that, at a specific location above the feed table, a point which is provided with a characteristic print is observed for a short time and checked for the presence of printing ink, and that the positive or negative finding is used to control the machine. To implement this method, a paper processing machine is advantageously used in which a support is provided above the feed table for the adjustable arrangement of at least one optical scanning head of a control device and in which a further scanning head of the control device is arranged alongside a moving part of the paper processing machine.
