The scanning electron microscope gas an electron beam generator. A specimen is scanned by the electron beam so that an information signal characteristic of the specimen is obtained on a display on the basis of the information signal. This can obtain an analytic result of the specimen from the detected information and display at least either a scan width or an area of the specimen.
