PURPOSE:To detect whether an obstacle exists or not extending over a wide range in the advancing direction of a car, by rotating and moving a photodetecting means in the horizontal direction, when detecting the obstacle optically. CONSTITUTION:Centering around a wheel 23 erecting perpendicularly on a horizontal base plate 21 fixed on a car such as forklift, a driven gear 24 turns within a prescribed angle range in the advancing direction side of a car by a driving gear 22b directly coupled with a servomotor MS provided with rotating position detecting potentiometer 22. Subsequently, a photodetector 29 fixed to this gear 24, and an infrared light emitting device 28 formed as one body with a planet gear 26 turning along a gear 25 are rotated with the gear 24, and the obstacle scanning direction moves in parallel with the advancing direction. Accordingly, whether an obstacle exists or not extensing over a wide range in the advancing direction of the car can be detected, the car driving motor is controlled in accordance with a prescribed detecting distance of the photodetector 29, the car damping control by sample holding and peak holding of a photodetecting signal through a potentiometer 27 responding to turning of the gear 26 is executed, and a safe unmanned operation, etc. of the car such as a forklift, etc. are executed. |
