A device for purifying the exhaust gas of a diesel engine, comprising a heat resistant filter (6) in a purifying conduit (1) and a heater (7) provided at the upstream side of the filter (6), whereby black smoke particles in the exhaust gas are dried up and then completely removed from the gas by means of the filtering operation of the filter (6), thereafter the poisonous gas components in the exhaust gas are removed by means of a catalytic converter (15). The filter (6) is contained in a chamber (9) in which cleaners (8) are also provided so as to easily recover the clogged filter (6).
