Apparatus for opening a panel pivotal about a vertically movable horizontal axis, e.g. an up-and-over door, comprises at least one loop of line 18 containing the main pivotal connection 5 of the panel. Movement along a linear path of a driven element such as a carrier body 11 slidable in a trackway which operates the loop to open and close the panel.
