PURPOSE:To obtain an image of excellent quality by changing a recording bias in two stages synchronously with the starting and ending of transfer, and thus compensating a drop in the surface potential of a recording medium uniformly electrostatically charged when the transfer is started. CONSTITUTION:A recording bias switching circuit 9 normally generates a recording bias VB0, which is switched to VB1 according to a transfer enable signal. The front end of a developed on the surface of the recording medium 1 reaches a transfer position and the transfer enable signal is activated to start the transfer. At this point of time, the recording bias switching circuit 9 switches the bias voltage supplied to drivers 10 and 11 of a recording head 4 to the VB1 to automatically compensate a drop of the surface potential of the uniformly electrostatically charged recording medium 1 which occurs during the transfer, thereby driving the recording head 4 by the adequate bias voltage VB1 corresponding to the current electrostatically charged potential of the recording medium 1. |
