<p>Apparatus and Method for Holding and Tacking Material An apparatus and method is provided for holding and tacking an elongate material onto a body, which body may be toroidal in shape. The material is applied to the body by means of a shuttle rotating about the body in a plane transverse to a plane containing the body. The apparatus includes a tacker arm having a clamping means for clamping and unclamping the end of the material, extending from the shuttle, to the arm. The arm is pivotally mounted on a carriage for movement between a first position, wherein the material clamped to the arm is held against the body, and a second position, spaced from the body. In the first position of the arm, the body will move the arm until the clamping means unclamps the material whereupon the arm is pivoted to the second position. The carriage is reciprocable for moving said arm between said second position, spaced from the body, and a third position, remote from the shuttle.</p> |
