A device intended to prevent a liquid-conveying pipe from bursting as a result of freezing comprises a through-flow chamber 17 which is designed for connection to the pipe 23 and which, as a result of liquid pressure exceeding the normal operating pressure of the pipe, can be expanded to the volume by which the liquid contained in the pipe, in the frozen state, exceeds the volume of the pipe cross-section for the device. The chamber returns to its initial state after expansion. The chamber 17 preferably consists of part of a rigid container 10 and is provided with pipe attachments 12, which container 10 further comprises at least one expansion chamber 18 delimited from the first-mentioned chamber by means of a elastic membrane 19 held tensioned across the cross section of the container. A spring- loaded, rigid body 20 prevents inward sagging of the membrane in the expansion chamber when normal liquid pressure prevails in the pipe 23. <IMAGE> |
