Title compds. I (n=0,1; X=halogen, alkoxy, penoxy, halopenoxy; Y, Z=H, galogen, trifluoromethl, nitro, alkyl; R1=C1˜C6-alkyl, H, when n=1., R1=C1, then n=0.) were prepd. as herbicidal compds. Thysm 11.6g chlorobenzene was added in 20g ethyl-β-aminocynamate with cooling. This mixture was heated for 2 hrs at 110≦̸C, cooled, and treated with patroleum ether. Resulting precipitate treated with hot benzebe was leated, cooled, and then filtered, gave to 1.44g (55%) yellow crystalline ethyl2,3-dihydro-2-oxo-40phenyl-5-thiazole carboxylate.
