PURPOSE:To develop a corrosion inhibitor for metal causing no environmental pollution, by using a copolymer consisting of structural units having alcoholic hydroxyl groups and structural units having carboxyl carboxyl groups and molybdic acid, tungstic acid or a salt thereof as effective components. CONSTITUTION:Structural units having alcoholic hydroxyl groups represented by formula I such as units of allyl alcohol or methallyl alcohol are copolymerized with structural units having carboxyl groups such as units of maleic acid or methacrylic acid at 40-150 deg.C in water or an org. solvent in the presence of a polymn. initiator. The resulting copolymer is a colorless or light-yellow, liq. or solid, and water soluble polymer having 1,500-100,000mol.wt. The copolymer is blended with molybdic acid, tungstic acid or a salt thereof in (1:9)-(9:1) ratio to prepare a corrosion inhibitor for metal. The inhibitor is added to water contacting with metal at 1-500ppm concn. to prevent the corrosion of the the metal due to the water. |
