An indicator (4) with an elongate hole (5) is mounted on the spindle (3) of the shut-off valve by means of a nut (2). The threaded part (12) projects through the elongate hole (5) by means of a ring bolt (11). The indicator (4) can be clamped against an indicating ring (9) by means of a wing nut (13) screwed onto the threaded part (12). In conjunction with the threaded part (12), a travel-limiting screw (15) prevents the spindle (3) from being moved beyond a predetermined point. This device on a shut-off fitting, for indicating the position of the closure element and for fixing a selected position, is simple to produce and can readily be mounted on series-produced fittings. <IMAGE>
