PURPOSE:To protect an internal combustion engine and a retarder, by providing a switch detecting non-injection of fuel at a control circuit for a retarder of internal combustion engine, and by turning the switch OFF upon the fuel supplying flow rate exceeding a predetermined value. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of retarder units 7 comprise a magnetic rotor 5 journaled to a crankshaft 3 of an internal combustion engine 1, an exciting coil 10 and a short-circuit ring 15. A switch 25 detecting non-injection of fuel is turned OFF upon an output signal appearing on a rack position sensor 22 or a lever position sensor 23. Since the switch 25 is turned OFF in this manner upon a fuel supplying flow rate exceeding a predetermined value, a crankshaft 3 is prevented from receiving a large torsional stress. |
