Overwrapping with plastics shrink wrap film - gathering it before seaming to leave part of package exposed

Single objects or groups of items are overwrapped in shrink-wrap plastics film, two sheets of film being used with at least one of them being gathered in at its ends before seaming such that an area bare of overwrap is left on the item(s) being packaged. The item or group to be overwrapped (1) is enveloped between an upper (2) and lower (3) layer of plastics film. Two bars or electrodes for heat-seaming (6,7) are situated in front of the package, and at each side, close to this plane, is one of a pair of jaws, (8,9) operated by jacks or electrically to gather the film in front of the package. One or both of the films may be gathered and the jaws are positioned at the appropriate height. Labels may be affixed or marks written on the items after they are overwrapped.
