The degree of compacting is determined via a parameter of the vibration compacting machine and is used as a criterion for breakdown. A maximum vertical roller body vibration distance is set during each transition. - At least one parameter of the vibrating part or parts is measured and used as an indication of the degree of compacting, pref. using an evaluation device. The vertical displacement is maximised by measuring the phase angle between the vertical displacement and the centrifugal force direction and using this as a control parameter.
