A building block, in particular hollow block, is provided with an inner and an outer block part which are connected to one another by block webs extending in the vertical direction and arranged at a distance from the lateral abutting faces of the block. A heat-insulating layer is arranged between the webs and in each case a web and a lateral abutting face of the block, the heat-insulating layer on the block underside and/or block upper side projecting beyond the latter and being provided, on the side projecting beyond the block, at least in the end region, with one or more indentations, bores or perforations extending at least approximately parallel to the block outer side. The heat-insulating layer is provided, in each case on the side between a block web and the associated abutting face of the block, at least in the region of the indentations, bores or perforations, with a tongue-like projection running in a vertical direction, on the side facing the inner and/or the outer block part. The projection engages in each case into a recess in the block part which is adapted thereto.
