The invention relates to a method and the apparatus for driving roadways and shafts in the rock by means of a heading machine, especially designed as a core-drilling machine, at the head of a string of support tubbings advancing with the driving. To this end, the tubbings are held at a distance apart in such a way that at most every second tubbing has a gap in front of it over which it can at the same time move forwards. To this end, each tubbing is equipped with a rim of advance cylinders which are operated with pressurized water preferably just like the heading machine. Special features are of use for drilling even in loose rock, which also involves a special core-drilling method, and also for the type of construction of the heading machines, the tubbings and the sealing of a bored shaft as well as for the recovery of the hydraulic cylinders and the machine drives and the filling of the tubbing columns with concrete for the final lining of the shaft or roadway.
