A vehicle roof, in particular motor vehicle roof, has two channels which extend in the longitudinal direction in each case near to the lateral edge and have in each case one mounting rail for attaching a roof rack. Each channel is covered by a cover strip which has a pocket which leads downwards into the channel and serves for the insertion of the luggage rack and has a cavity next to said pocket. For the purpose of good mounting and in order to avoid the ingress of dirt and water into the internal space of the cover strip, the cavity is formed by an independent hollow profile and the latter is inserted into the cover strip.
